What it is
Responsibility Drift is not delegation. Delegation is explicit and agreed. Drift is the opposite: unassigned ownership that transfers by default to whoever is most reliable, with no conversation and no record of when it happened. See silent assignment and how ownership transfers quietly.
How it works
Competence invites reliance; reliance becomes default ownership; default ownership compounds. The better you handle what arrives, the more arrives — the more you handle, the more you get. You did not volunteer; you became the default.
How to tell it is happening to you
Your obligations exceed your actual agreements. You cannot trace when you agreed to half of what you carry. You feel resentment but cannot name a specific violation — because there was never an explicit moment to point to.
What to do about it
You reverse drift by separating what is structurally yours from what merely landed on you, one item at a time. That is the entire function of the Responsibility Reclaim System.
