You are not overloaded.
You are misallocated.

What this is

Not a reading exercise. A decision-making system.

The Responsibility Reclaim System is not a guide to setting limits. It is a structural reallocation process. Every section contains a tool, a table, a grid, or a script — and a forced output. A partially executed system produces a partially corrected situation.

Responsibility is structural, not personal. What you are carrying migrated to you because the structure allowed it. Nothing stopped it. The goal is not reduction. The goal is reallocation — correcting where ownership sits, not shrinking what you contribute.

Use this when you are clear that something is misassigned but cannot name what. When you have already thought about stepping back and have not said it. When deferral is no longer a neutral option — because the configuration continues to reinforce around your continued absorption of it.

The Diagnostic

Three responsibility types.
Only one is traceable.

Three Responsibility Types — Explicit, Drifted, and Implied
Diagram · Three Responsibility Types. You will encounter all three.

Before reallocation, classification. Every responsibility you carry falls into one of three categories. Most of what’s crushing you is not what was assigned — it’s what migrated or was assumed.

Type 01
Explicit
Formally assigned through agreement, role definition, or direct request.
Indicator
You can name when and how you agreed to it.
Type 02
Drifted
Migrated to you without explicit assignment or agreement.
Indicator
You cannot identify when you became responsible for it.
Type 03
Implied
Assumed by others based on proximity, capability, or past behavior.
Indicator
Nobody asked. Everyone expects.
What’s Inside

An execution instrument. Eight protocols. One reclamation per situation.

  1. System Orientation

Establish the structural frame before you act. Responsibility as architecture, not personality.

  2. Responsibility Map

List every item. Classify each. Decide what stays — binary, no partial answers.

  3. Boundary Decision Grid

Every item from the Map gets exactly one category: Own, Support, Observe, or Exit.

  4. Reassignment Script Bank

Six scenarios. The exact words. Professional, leadership, peer, and personal scripts — pre-written.

  5. First 48 Hours Plan

Day 1 mapping. Day 2 execution. One conversation scheduled and held — the configuration changes.

  6. Stabilization System

The Weekly Drift Audit, early warning signals, and six prevention rules that keep reclaim durable.

  7. Re-Absorption Recovery

The five-step protocol for catching absorption early and returning without self-criticism.

  8. Progress Checkpoint

Day 7, 30, and 90 verification. Confirm the configuration is structural, not situational.

The Instrument

Every item gets exactly one category.
No dual assignments. No “it depends.”

Boundary Decision Grid — OWN, SUPPORT, OBSERVE, EXIT plotted against involvement and ownership
Diagram · Boundary Decision Grid. Every item gets one category.

The Boundary Decision Grid is the operational heart of the system. You will transfer every item from your Responsibility Map and mark one — and only one — category. Indecision is a vote to continue the current configuration.

Own
Formally assigned or explicitly agreed. You execute. You are accountable for the outcome.
When it is in your role definition, or you agreed to it in specific terms.
Support
Your expertise has value. The outcome is not yours. You provide input when asked.
The responsibility belongs elsewhere. Your involvement ends when asked.
Observe
Awareness is required. Action is not. You receive updates. You do not execute.
Staying informed is legitimate. Taking ownership is not.
Exit
Drifted or implied. No agreement exists. You stop. You formally return it.
Continued involvement enables further drift. Exit is the structural correction.
Inside the system

One line of the system. The exact words.

The Reassignment Script Bank contains six pre-written scripts — professional, leadership, peer, and personal. No improvisation required. Here is one, in full.

Script 01 — Professional
Exiting a drifted project responsibility
I want to be clear about my capacity going forward. This project has been outside my formal scope, and I’m no longer in a position to absorb it. The right owner is [name or role]. I can provide a brief handover if useful, but I won’t be continuing to manage it.

One statement is sufficient. If pressed for a reason, one sentence is the ceiling. Do not apologize. Do not negotiate ownership — only the handover timeline.

Qualification

This is for operators who are done absorbing.

The Responsibility Reclaim System is not universally applicable. It is an execution protocol for a specific condition — structural misallocation — and a specific kind of reader: someone willing to have the conversations the system requires.

This is for you if —

  • You are carrying work you cannot trace to an explicit agreement.
  • You have already decided to step back from something — and have not said it.
  • Someone else’s deadline feels like your emergency.
  • You rehearse conversations in your head but never schedule them.
  • Your energy cost is disproportionate to your logged hours.
  • You have diagnosed the problem. You need the execution layer.

This is not for you if —

  • You are looking for permission to quit. This is not a departure plan.
  • You want scripts without the underlying reallocation work.
  • You are unwilling to have a structural conversation about ownership.
  • You believe the solution is working harder inside the current configuration.
  • You want to reduce what you contribute rather than correct where it sits.
  • You want reading. This is a system with forced outputs.
